With the array of dual models in each family which Dyson currently offers, it seems as if someone was left behind when the Dyson DC24 ball was created. It is only available in the only the Dyson All Floors model, which may leave some pet owners feeling a little slighted and asking, “What about us?” There appears to be no specific reason to explain why a comparable Dyson Animal was not created, but it may just be the fact that Dyson was not able to pack all the Animal functionality into a much smaller package.

While the Dyson DC24 vacuum is much smaller and lighter than its siblings, it still packs quite a punch, making it great for apartment dwellers. Weighing less than 12 pounds, the DC24 is light enough for anyone to carry around the apartment, or small house with ease. Its size also makes is great for storage, especially when space may be at a premium to start with. Just don’t let its small stature fool you. It still comes complete with many of the functions that exist on its larger siblings.

The Dyson DC24 upright vacuum comes equipped with the same Root Cyclone technology that was present on its predecessors. The only difference between this machine and the other Dyson uprights that came before it is the fact that the suction power is almost half that of previous models. Guess this is to be expected since the entire system is smaller than any other model, so it is nearly impossible to put the same suction capacity into a smaller package. Dyson would need to completely re-design its technology in order for its power to fit into a smaller package, and why break what works?

Although smaller, the Dyson DC24 all floors comes complete with the clear, polycarbonate dust bin that has been seen on previous models. The bin on the DC24 of course will hold less than other models, but its operation is still the same. With the push of a button, the “trap door” opens, releasing all its contents into the trash.

This machine also includes auto height adjustment which makes transitioning from carpets to hard floors a breeze. No need for the user to make any adjustments the DC24 does it for you.  It also comes complete with the reversible wand which can be used for cleaning those hard to reach spots. Just disassemble the handle assembly and re-assemble in the accessory mode, and you are ready to attack all those ugly spider webs you could never reach by hand.

The DC24 also comes complete with a lifetime HEPA filter, and this model, like its predecessors is also certified by the Asthma & Allergy Association which makes it great for allergy suffers. It also comes complete with Dyson’s Ball technology which makes the DC24 easy to drive, allowing you to clean every last corner you were unable to get to with your old vacuum.

Unlike its predecessors, the DC24 upright comes with a unique accessory. Due to the machines smaller size, there is a limited amount of storage space on top of the canister which requires some tool changes. This vacuum comes with the combination accessory tool that is not found on any other Dyson model. The tool can either act as a crevice tool or can be extended to function as a dusting brush, eliminating the need for extra space to store two separate tools.

Since the only difference between the Dyson Ball DC24 and previous Dyson All Floors models is its size, you may be wondering why it’s worth the extra cash when compared to the more affordable models provided by a wide array of competitors.  The DC24’s biggest advantage is its size. Since it is smaller and lighter than any other Dyson model, it is perfect for apartment dwellers or those who live in smaller houses that may be short on storage space.  It is also much lighter than any of its predecessors, which makes carrying it up and down stairs a breeze. This is a plus for those who may struggle with larger machines or have medical conditions that prevent them from carrying more than a certain weight.

The Dyson DC24, like is predecessor the Dyson DC15, also contains the “ball” technology which makes maneuvering the vacuum around furniture and into tight spaces a breeze. This is great for homes where space is at a premium and you just don’t have the extra space to “swing” your vacuum into those tight corners.

While the DC24 ball may appear to be the DC15 ball, only in a smaller package, this is not exactly the case. The DC24 upright provides almost half the suction power of its bigger brother. This lack of true power is its biggest flaw, especially when suction is Dyson’s biggest selling point. Allergy suffers may find that their symptoms still linger, since the machine will not be able suck out the same amount of dust mites and dander that its bigger brother could. This is not to say that the vacuum does not do a good job of cleaning, it’s just not as strong as some of its predecessors which prevents it from performing the true, deep down clean, that you have come to expect from Dyson.

Its size is also a factor when it comes to dirt storage. Since the clear bin is much smaller than that on its predecessors, you may find yourself having to empty the bin a lot more often. Bin capacity may be reached quite fast, especially if you are doing a lot of rug vacuuming. One needs to decide if its smaller size is really worth the extra effort, unless you are really strapped for storage space.

Pet owners may want to steer clear of this model. Although previous All Floors models do quite well at picking up pet fur, the DC24’s lower sucking power may result in pet fur being left behind. Unless you own a hairless cat, or non-shedding dog, this is not the vacuum for you and your pet friendly home.

Its smaller stature can also cause some problems when it comes to cleaning. Its hose is shorter than that included with its bigger siblings which can cause some issues when it comes to cleaning stairs. While other Dyson models can sit on the floor, leaving you two hands to clean with, the DC24 may need to be carried, and balanced precariously on a lower step. With the wide variety of Dyson DC models that are currently available on the market, as well as the retired models that can still be purchased new from a wide range of retailers, you may be wondering why the Dyson DC14 offers the best bang for your buck. The DC14, like many of Dyson’s other models is available in both the All floors model and the Animal. Colors are the same as on all other Dyson models, so deciding which one is right for you will quickly become more difficult than finding it in the store.

The DC14 is an upgrade from Dyson’s first DC07, and while they look almost identical, you may be wondering why the DC14 is worth considering. Both the Dyson DC14 All Floors model and the Dyson DC14 Animal are a tad bit smaller and lighter than their predecessors. The canister is also a little shorter than that of the DC07, but the DC14’s canister is a little fatter so it is still able to hold the same amount of dirt and fuzz as its predecessor. You will be able to do just as much vacuuming as you could before without having to worry about more trips to empty the bin. The DC14 is also shorter than its predecessor, but this and any of the other sizes changes will hardly be noticeable to the average user, unless you decide to do an in depth comparison of the two, and the size difference may only become evident when they are sitting side by side. Combine these minor size changes with the DC14’s built in ergonomic handle and the machine becomes much easier to carry, especially up and down stairs, which may just make cleaning more of a joy than the chore it may currently be.

This model also offers the same Root Cyclone technology that was present on the DC07.  This machine maintains constant suction power which pulls the dust and dirt out of carpets and other surfaces as its predecessor did. This vacuum also allows users the ability to turn off the beater bar so they can protect their delicate hardwood floors or any other delicate floor surface from scratches while still using Dyson’s sucking power. This can put an end to every last cat hair “tumbleweed” that may be floating around on the floor.

The DC14 also offers a 17 foot hose which makes cleaning the stairs a breeze. For those of us who have ever precariously balanced their upright on the stair below them in an effort to clean the carpets on their stairs, you know just as well as I how difficult and frustrating this can be. That is why this 17 foot hose is such a godsend. The machine can stay firmly planted on the floor at the bottom of the stairs while only you and the hose climb to the top. With Dyson’s sucking power, you are sure to get a great clean every time.

One feature that is also unique only to the Animal is the carpet care kit it comes packaged with. The DC14 comes with Zorb powder and Dysolv spray which work great at removing a wide range of stains from your rugs, helping them to look newer, longer.

While the DC14 delivers in the same power you would expect from Dyson, it is not without its flaws. One of the most common gripes about the DC14, and any of the other Dyson models is its cost. While you could, of course, buy a few of the lesser priced models for the price of one Dyson, but as the saying always goes, you do in fact get what you pay for. Quality rarely comes cheap.

One other issue with the DC14 – similar to that of its predecessor – is the possible need to have to stick your hand in the dirt receptacle to clear the air intake of attached kitty fur or rug fuzz. Dyson DC18 Reviews and Ratings

With all the models that are in Dyson’s lineup of upright vacuums, each new model seems better than the rest, and that is the case with the Dyson DC18 Slim. This vacuum comes in two different flavors that are somewhat different than the rest of the Dyson line. The DC18 Slim comes in the Dyson DC18 All Floors model and also as the Dyson DC18 Total Access model. The All Floors model wears the same safety yellow that we have become accustomed to finding on the Dyson All Floors model, while the Dyson Total Access model seems to have stolen the prized purple color that we have come to associate with the Animal. It appears as if the Dyson Animal model has been pushed to the sidelines in Dyson’s next iteration of their best selling vacuum cleaner technology, but that doesn’t seem to make much of a difference since the Animal accessories are available for purchase from any vacuum retailer.

The biggest change in the Dyson DC18 Slim is that it is slimmer and lighter that its predecessors. Weighing about 5 pounds less than its predecessors makes carrying it around the house much less cumbersome than with previous models. Its slimmer figure has also improved the functionality of the Dyson vacuum cleaner. Since this vacuum has less girth than its predecessors, it can easily maneuver into those tight spots between furniture that previous models would have required use of accessories to keep clean.

This vacuum also utilizes a form of the “ball” technology, but it appears to have gotten a facelift since its introduction on the Dyson DC15 Ball. While it may look different than its predecessors, operation is still the same. Vacuum users only need to do a quick twist of the wrist to get the vacuum to go where they want it to. This makes for easier maneuverability around all the furniture in your home, and when combined with a slimmer body, your vacuuming tasks may take less time than they once did with a competitors vacuum.

Dyson has also made some minor improvements to the usability of the Dyson DC18 vacuum.  The handle is more ergonomic, making it easier to hold with your hand. The kickstand release has been improved greatly from its predecessors. If you have had any type of experience with the first “ball” model, you may remember that the release was quite difficult to activate. I myself have resorted to using my hand to lift the lever because triggering the release with my foot seemed almost impossible at times. Dyson has resolved this issue by upgrading the kickstand to a big red lever. All you need to do is step on the lever and the Dyson DC18 Slim All Floors or Total Access is released from its upright position, ready to tackle the days vacuuming chores.

The rest of the features that are on the Dyson DC18 upright are similar to what was found on previous Dyson models. When it comes to cleaning, this vacuum cleaner comes complete with the Dyson telescopic wand that makes sucking up every last cobweb a breeze. No need to balance on your toes with a dusting brush, the DC18 Slim does the work for you so you can keep your home cobweb free. It also includes the combo tool accessory that first made its debut on the Dyson DC24 Ball, as well as a stair tool. Both accessories store easily on the body of the machine so they are easily accessible whenever you need them.

The Dyson DC18 Slim also includes a 17 foot hose, which makes the chore of vacuuming the stairs that much easier.  There is no need to worry about balancing the vacuum with one hand while you clean with the other. For a little more than the cost of the Dyson DC18 All Floors model, the Dyson DC18 Total Access model provides users with a flexi crevice tool, a mattress cleaning tool and a multi-angle brush. The flexi crevice tool can extend and bend, providing the user with the functionality to clean in those hard to reach areas. The mattress cleaning tool helps to remove the dirt and dust mites from mattresses or upholstery, and the multi-angle brush can twist into different positions so the user can clean the hard to reach areas in their home that the flexi crevice tool just can’t get to.

Since many improvements have been made to the DC18 Slim, it is somewhat difficult to find any functional negatives with this vacuum, but there are a few. Price is one of the biggest negatives to any of the vacuum models in the Dyson line. The average user may be turned off by the price, especially when you can purchase multiples of a competitors vacuum for the price of one Dyson DC. But as the saying always goes, you do get what you pay for, and you do not want to skimp on quality when it comes to keeping your home clean. The DC18 Slim also utilizes a smaller dust bin. Dyson has added yet another member to its repertoire in the form of the model DC17 upright vacuum. Unlike its predecessors which come in either safety yellow or purple, this model changes the color scheme a bit with its offering of the Dyson DC17 Asthma & Allergy model and the Dyson DC17 Absolute Animal model. The DC17 Asthma version wears mostly grey with the cyclone cover tinted a lovely shade of teal while the cyclone cover on the DC17 Animal is a deep crystalline purple. It appears as if Dyson took a step back from is standard color scheme with this model since neither really stands out from the lot and you need to make sure you keep your eyes peeled otherwise you may walk right by the one that you are looking for.

While each model is unique in its own way, they both have a lot in common. The DC17 sports an upgraded version of the Dyson Root Cyclone technology in the form of Level 3 Root Cyclone technology. As if it was almost impossible for Dyson to improve on the suction power that it provides in all its models, they have delivered an even better version of its best suction power. The level 3 version provides an even further separation of dust and dirt particles when compared to the performance of its predecessors. Suction power will remain constant, resulting in the demise of every last dust mite or pet dander particle that may have taken up residence in your carpet.

The Dyson DC17 also makes stairs and those hard to reach areas a breeze to clean. With 16 feet of hose, cleaning the stairs is no longer the most dreaded chore in your cleaning regime. These tools allow the allergy suffer to use the sucking power of the Dyson to effectively clean the areas of the home that can be most problematic for the allergy sufferer.

The Absolute Animal on the other hand comes with the same add-ons like the Dyson Animal’s that came before it. It comes equipped with the Animal Mini Turbine Head, Low Reach Floor Accessory and the Carpet care kit, all of which are geared towards helping the pet owner keep their home in perfect shape. No matter how many pets they may own.

While the DC17, like the rest of the Dyson DC line, delivers great performance with great cleaning power, it is not without its own flaws. Both models come complete with add-on tools, but there is no place on the vacuum itself to store them. Tools will need to find their home in a closet or somewhere similar, and the owner will need to remember when they last saw their tools, which can be quite a pain at times. Especially when you need to the last minute couch de-furring before the in-laws arrive.

The DC17 model is still quite heavy for a vacuum. Weighing in at nearly 20 lbs, the machine can be quite cumbersome for the lady or the children of the house to lug up and down stairs. Even though it comes complete with an ergonomic handle, there is still a lot of heft to throw around.

While the DC21 offers many of the features that can be found on its upright siblings, Dyson has added some other features that are unique only to its canister vacuum cleaner. The best feature is its size. Most canister vacuums are relatively compact, but when it comes to storage, there never seems to be enough room for the hose as well as all the other accessories that come along with it. Dyson has resolved this problem by designing a canister vacuum that neatly folds up into a convenient package. The power head attachment has its own storage location at the back of the canister, the hose wraps nicely around the canisters dirt bin and the wand has its own storage slot on the side of the dirt bin. All other included accessories, except for the bare floor attachment, have their own home on the canister, making storage a breeze.  The canister can also be stored in an upright position, on the off chance you are just a few inches short in your closet. The Dyson DC21 Stowaway can also automatically wind up its power cord. While this feature is quite common on some of the higher end canister vacuums, this is the first Dyson model that can do the cord winding for you.

The best feature of the Dyson DC21 vacuum cleaner is that it is certified asthma friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation. With a lifetime HEPA filter, the vacuum sucks up every last dust particle while expelling nothing but clean air.

While the DC21 Stowaway delivers the quality that you have come to expect from Dyson, it is not without its flaws.  This vacuum comes in near the top in terms of weight when compared to its upright vacuum siblings. Although it is smaller than most competitor canisters on the market, it weighs about 23 pounds which makes it quite cumbersome to carry, especially up and down stairs.

The biggest flaw to the DC21 Stowaway vacuum is its price. Like with all other Dyson models, the DC21 sits near the top of the price range when compared to other canister vacuums. The average vacuum buyer may be turned off by the price, especially when you can purchase more than one of a competitors vacuum for the price of one Dyson. But as the saying always goes, you do get what you pay for, and you do not want to skimp on quality when it comes to keeping your home clean.
